This illustrated lecture will focus on the history of the Spanish fortification that defended colonial Monterey most notably from pirates.  We will examine some of the more poignant military, archeological, cultural, and preservation aspects of the cherished landmark while providing context, connecting dots, and separating fact from imagination.  

Local Spanish history author Adam Kinkade will discuss the first several Governors of Alta California under Spain, and how they shaped Monterey and Alta California
