Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Monterey History & Art’s projects
and programs. You can choose how much time to offer, but some roles
request a minimum time commitment (for example, four to eight hours a
month as a Watchstander). Of course, the more time you can give us, the
more time we can open our buildings to the public, and the better we can
serve our mission!
Love the sea? Would you like to learn more about local maritime history
and share your knowledge with visitors from all around the world? The
Maritime Museum of Monterey is looking for “Watchstanders” to welcome
visitors at the museum’s entrance and help them understand the exhibits.
A fringe benefit: you enjoy free lectures and programs in the museum.
Would you enjoy working with historical photos, documents and books, or
would you like to learn more about early Monterey inhabitants through
primary sources? You can be involved with local history and
thought-provoking events as a volunteer at the Mayo Hayes O’Donnell
Library, one of Monterey’s most important collections of historic
documents..
Love the old adobes? Have you ever wanted to feel like you ‘owned’ one
of them? As a Casa Serrano docent, you can share early Monterey
treasures with visitors and locals, and participate in events such a
Christmas in the Adobes and History Fest.
