Monterey History and Art Association facilities are available to rent for your special event, such as parties, meetings, weddings, anniversaries and conferences. MHAA is the caretaker for some of Monterey’s loveliest and most historic buildings and “living” museums. Imagine “raising a glass” on the same grounds as John Steinbeck or Robert Louis Stevenson!

We know that you are considering our venue(s) because the unique ambiance will enhance your event. As caretakers, the preservation of our priceless artifacts is our primary concern. We ask that you help us protect them by understanding our policies and procedures. Please read the MHAA Facility Rental Policies and Procedures to make sure we can accommodate your needs before submitting the Facility Rental Application.

Museum of Monterey at the Stanton Center

5 Custom House Plaza, Monterey

The Museum of Monterey (MoM) at the Stanton Center is located near Fisherman’s Wharf in downtown Monterey. The property has easy access for caterers, decorators, musicians, and photographers. The Stanton Center is within walking distance of several major hotels and adjacent to a large public parking lot, making it the perfect venue for corporate events and private parties. The MoM has easy access for caterers, decorators, musicians, and photographers.

The MoM offers several spaces that can hold different types of events, including:

  • The Theater features lecture-style seating for 100, state-of-the-art projection with the ability to project slides, DVD, video, Power Point, and stage lighting.
      • The rental fee is $1,000/6hrs and $220/hr for additional hours or $800/3 hrs and $225 for additional hours.
  • The Atrium, a light and airy space with two-story picturesque windows, views of the harbor, wharf, and Custom House Plaza. The 1,600-square-foot lobby also makes a great dance floor, with an overhead bridge that’s perfect for a jazz combo or DJ. An enclosed indoor/outdoor patio adds to the ambiance.
      • The rental fee is $1,000/6 hrs and $220/hr for additional hours or $800/3 hrs and $225/hr for additional hours.
  • The Plaza Galleries (North and South), which house the fully-functional light from the historic Point Sur Lighthouse, and feature views of the harbor, wharf, and Custom House Plaza.
      • The rental fee is $1,300/6 hrs and $250/hr for additional hours.
  • The Mountain View and Ocean View Galleries, on the second floor, boast commanding views of the wharf, harbor, and Mount Toro. A private balcony overlooks the Custom House Plaza. These galleries house the MHAA permanent historical collections, including model ships, clothing, artifacts, and an interactive underwater adventure.
      • The rental fee is $1,800/6 hrs and $325/hr for additional hours.

The Museum of Monterey is available Tuesday through Sunday from 5pm-11pm and all day on Mondays.

Casa Serrano

412 Pacific Street, Monterey

Built in 1843 and constructed of adobe and redwood, the Casa Serrano Adobe is one of Monterey’s oldest and most historic homes. It is furnished with antiques and local artwork, from the Spanish, Mexican, and early American periods. Among its treasures are a piano that was shipped ‘around the Horn,’ a massive mahogany table that can seat 22, and a suite of horsehair settees.

The Casa Serrano Adobe provides an elegant setting for a wedding, a reception, or both. It is also a comfortable, serene setting for meetings, corporate or spiritual retreats, anniversary teas, and birthday parties. It features two separate patios connected by a brick path, both of which have access to the Grande Sala. The larger patio can also be entered from the street, allowing a party to have several distinct phases and moods.

The Casa Serrano can accommodate up to 66 people for a seated event and up to 125 for a standing event. It comes complete with a commercial kitchen. Despite no on-site parking, several public lots are located close by, as well as ample on-street parking in the area.

The rental fee is $1,500/6 hrs and $275/hr for additional hours or $825/3 hrs and $300/hr for additional hours. The fee also includes on-site staff supervision for the duration of the event.

The Casa Serrano Adobe is available 7 days a week from 7:00am to midnight.
