In 1996, the founders of Monterey History & Art Association recognized, firstly, the need for additional financial resources for MHAA, and secondly, the benefits of group gatherings to keep our history alive. Los Amigos was set up in August of that year by MHAA member Betty Bell to fulfill those two needs.

During its almost ten years as a partner of MHAA, Los Amigos has offered three to five events a year to help raise the members’ awareness of the city’s historical past. Its fundraising events have allowed Los Amigos to give MHAA more than $70,000, to assist the Association in whatever projects it has in hand. Such unrestricted gifts allow the Association great flexibility in directing money wherever the need is greatest.
