About Monterey History &
Art Association’s Partners
The Monterey History & Art Association leadership believes that the
easiest way to effect powerful change is by working with other groups,
associations and civic organizations towards common goals. By sharing
knowledge and enthusiasm, much more can be accomplished than by each
discrete organization working alone.
Historic Monterey is a collaborative effort between Monterey
History & Art Association, the California State Parks Department,
particularly the Monterey State Historic Park, and the City of Monterey.
Among the goals of the three groups is to clearly designate places of
historic interest in the City of Monterey, to hold events that will
foster a greater appreciation for our history and heritage, and to
provide visitors with a seamless experience across all three entities’
properties.
California State University Monterey Bay,
through its Museum Studies program (under the Visual and Public Arts
major), has become a valued partner, providing enthusiastic interns who
benefit greatly from hands-on experience in the field. The students work
in a variety of roles, learning first-hand how a museum is run while
also focusing on concepts related to ethics, multiculturalism and
accessibility issues.
Historic Garden League is a volunteer organization devoted to
saving the historic open and gardens spaces of Monterey, and to
recreating authentic gardens that are true to the time period of the
buildings they surround. For more information, call 831-649-3364.
Finally, while partnerships with outside organizations are important,
the success of the Association depends heavily on the selfless and
skilled efforts of our volunteers, many of whom are extremely
knowledgeable about California history and maritime lore. If you’d like

artifacts – click here.
